Frequently asked questions
Is this clay pot oven-safe?
Yes. Put it in a cold oven and let it heat up gradually with the oven — that steady warm-up is what stops clay cracking. It's made for oven cooking, not for a direct flame or hob.
Do I need to soak it before use?
Yes, for unglazed clay: soak it in cold water for 15–30 minutes before cooking. The clay takes up a little water that turns to steam in the oven and keeps food moist. Glazed pieces don't need soaking.
Can I use it on the hob or a gas flame?
No. Like most clay roasters it's built for the oven. A direct flame or hob heats one spot too fast and can crack the ceramic.
How do I clean it?
Hot water and a stiff brush; skip the detergent, since porous clay can hold soap. A baking-soda paste lifts stubborn marks, and it should dry fully before you put it away.
Is it tested for food safety?
Yes. Our clay cookware was tested by IBA București for lead and cadmium migration, with results below the EU limits (Directive 84/500/EEC). The reports are on our Safety & Materials page.

In Romania, from natural clay, under the POEM Design name.
