About Poem Design
Poem Design is a ceramic studio that has been combining traditional pottery with modern colours and forms for over 23 years. Every piece in our terracotta cookware collection is designed and made by the Poem Design team, drawing on more than two decades of hands-on experience working with natural clay.
Our Experience
We do not simply resell clay pots — we design, glaze, fire and test them ourselves. Over the past 23 years we have refined our recipes for clay bodies and glazes so that our cookware withstands daily use in real kitchens. We use our own pots at home and in our workshop before they ever reach our customers, and we adjust each design based on what we learn from cooking with them.
Craft & Materials
Our cookware is made from natural terracotta clay, free from harmful additives, and finished with food-safe glazes. Traditional clay-pot cooking retains moisture and distributes heat gently, which is why these vessels have been used across many cuisines for centuries.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prepare a new clay pot before first use?
Before first use, soak the unglazed clay pot fully submerged in cold water for 15 to 30 minutes, then let it air dry. This seasons the porous terracotta so it heats evenly and is less likely to crack. Repeat the soak before each use for fully unglazed pots.
Can terracotta clay pots be used on a gas or electric stovetop?
Many of our clay pots are designed for oven use and can be used on a gas flame with a heat diffuser to spread the heat. For electric or induction hobs, the oven is recommended. Always raise the temperature gradually, because sudden heat changes can crack natural clay.
Are your clay pots and glazes food safe and lead free?
Yes. Our cookware is made from natural terracotta clay without harmful additives and finished with food-safe, lead-free glazes suitable for cooking and serving food.
How should I clean a clay cooking pot?
Let the pot cool, then wash by hand with warm water and a brush. Avoid soap on unglazed surfaces, because the porous clay can absorb detergent. For stubborn residue, use a paste of baking soda and water. Allow the pot to dry completely before storing.
Why does clay pot cooking improve the taste of food?
Clay pots heat gently and retain moisture, so food cooks slowly in its own juices. This keeps dishes tender and helps preserve nutrients and natural flavour, which is why clay-pot cooking has been used across many cuisines for centuries.
Do you ship clay pots across Europe and how are they packed?
Yes, we ship our terracotta cookware across Europe. Each pot is wrapped and cushioned to protect the fragile clay during transit. For wholesale and bulk orders, please contact us at marketing@claypots.eu for a quote.
How long do clay cooking pots last?
With proper care, including gradual heating and hand washing, a quality terracotta pot can last for many years. Over time the seasoned clay can even improve flavour. Avoid sudden temperature changes, which are the most common cause of cracking.
